Cityscape [charcoal on paper]

Painting will find a way…

I was spending a night at a photographers house, looking around for something to draw on. She had this amazing black paper pad,180g A4ish size smooth mat finish (photographers always surprise me). I had with me only my surviving kit with pigma pens, tombows, charcoal, graphite pencils, black markers, nothing that would leave an at least barely visible contrast on the excellent quality black paper (what use a photographer has of black paper?!), when I noticed a correction pen laying on her desk. Correction fluid consists of 40-60% of titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is an opaque material that does not absorb light and has a high refractive index so it produces predominately white color. Hence all the titanium whites in oil and acrylic colors. Correction fluid also contains a polymer which allows it to “stick” on the paper. It takes a few seconds to dry completely till polymerization is complete, so it gives the opportunity to smudge areas with your fingers, and once dried out it creates this rigid/solid matiera.

I was happy with the results.

So was she.

She kept all of them.
